We believed a good quality prototype was produced which delivered on a majority of the project briefs and were not many days from completing an automated system to truly finish the project. While only a prototype radio shuttle, other student engineers could use our project as a starting point and optimise it to create a product which is closer to industry standards. We believe the following recommendations to be the most important tasks to be undertaken surrounding any future development plan:

  • Finalising the semi-automated system for the radio shuttle

  • Including an independent power source (which there was space for within the prototype) so a constant wired connection to a power supply is not required

  • Creating a body for the radio shuttle to protect all components while in operation

  • Designing an inherent safety feature for the radio shuttle which would enable it to be retrieved should any problems be encountered

  • Designing a system which would load the shuttle on to the shelves themselves, equivalent to what a forklift would do in a warehouse setting
